We meet our Tour Leader at Malta International Airport at 01:30 in order to check in for our Air Malta flight which departs at 03:30 direct to Budapest, Hungary. On arrival, a private coach will be waiting to transfer us to our hotel, the 4-star Hotel Novotel Budapest, and leave our luggage there. This morning we offer you an optional half day excursion around Budapest, the capital of Hungary, also known as the ‘Pearl of the Danube’. We will explore the two sides of Budapest. We will visit Heroes’ Square, the Millennium Monument and Andrassy Street. We will pass by the Opera House and St. Stephen’s Basilica. Crossing Chain Bridge, we make our way to the castle district where we see St. Matthias Church and Fishermen’s Bastion. This evening you will have free time at leisure, or those who wish, can join the Tour Leader for a visit to the Christmas Market in Vaci Utca which is nearby the Danube River.
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. An optional full day excursion to Vienna, the capital city of Austria, which will be decorated for the New Year celebrations. Our first stop will be at Schönbrunn Palace the summer residence of the Austrian emperors. Will will enter the palace to visit the elegant gardens and La Gloriette. We will pass in front of the parliament, go to Volksgarten and continue on to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. We will also see the Chapel of the Cavalliers of Malta in Kantner Strasse, where there is also a monument honoring the Grand Master La Vallette. We will also have some free time while in Vienna.
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Our full day optional excursion will take us to Kecskemet, followed by a visit to a Puszta (a traditional Hungarian prairie). In Kecskemet we will see the Franciscan Church, the Catholic Church build during the reign of King Louis the 16th and the town hall. From Kecskemet we make our way to Varga Tanya for a unique experience of horses and a enjoy a delicious meal of gypsy cuisine from the nearby villages. This will be a three course meal with wine, accompanied by traditional gypsy music. There will also be the opportunity to ride on a typical chariot.
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. An optional excursion to the region of Eger, known for its tumultuous history, Baroque architecture, the fortress that dominates the city, Ottoman minarets and its wine production. We will return to the hotel in the early afternoon. Tonight we will celebrate the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 on the M.V. Europa, a charming boat on the Danube River. The dinner on-board is obligatory. The evening will be full of cheer, fanfare, music, singing and unlimited wine and beer. From the boat deck, we will have the perfect viewing spot to see the impressive fireworks.
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Our last optional excursion takes us to the areas surrounding the Danube River. Our first stop will be Esztergom, where we will visit the cathedral. In Visegrad, we will go up to the charming castle on top of a nearby mountain, giving great views of the river and the nearby villages. We will continue on to Szentendre, a medieval and Baroque town. At the end of our excursion, we will make our way to our hotel to collect our luggage and continue on to the airport to catch our 23:25 direct Air Malta flight to Malta. We are expected to arrive home at 01:35 on Tuesday morning.
